Finding the best lower ab workout is not always an easy thing to do. It can be frustrating to keep trying to work the lower abs if you feel like you are not doing it right.

In this article, you will learn what it takes to have the best lower ab workout around.

Before we get into 3 exercises, it is important that you understand some basics about training the lower abs.

The first thing that you should understand is that just working the lower abs will not result in losing fat in that area. In order to lose fat in that area, you need to lower your body fat percentage. If you have a lot of fat to lose, then the best lower ab workout in the world won’t do the trick all by itself. The same goes for someone who just has to lose the last few pounds.

The good news is that doing a great lower ab workout safely and effectively will help to strengthen your core, as well as tone those muscles up for when you are in the single digits with body fat percentage =)

Losing fat all over your body requires that you do the right combination of strength training (don’t worry you will not get big and bulky), a special type of cardio called interval training, and most important, have a great diet.

Once you have those things under control, your fat loss efforts will be guaranteed.

But you came to this page looking for the best lower ab workout around, so here are a few exercises you can try right now.

Remember that training your abs is different than training other muscles. If you were working your biceps, you might try doing 3 sets of 10 reps for a few different exercises. For your lower abs, you will want to do a special sequence of exercises with little rest in between. This is called abdominal circuit training.

Here are some of the best lower ab exercises to try

1. Alternating Supine Leg Walks

Start off by laying on your back with your hands under your buttocks. Lift your legs so they are vertical. Contract your abs so your midsection is tense.

Then, lower 1 leg so your foot is a few inches from the ground. Hold there for about 1 second, then return that leg to the starting position. Alternate which leg you lower.

Try a reps and really try to feel the lower abs working.

2. Supine Reverse Crunches

Start off by laying on your back with your hands under your buttocks. Lift your legs so they are vertical, then bend your knees at a 90 degree angle. Contract your abs so your midsection is tense.

Keeping your knees bent at the same angle, slowly lower them until the back of your feet are a few inches above the ground. Then, bring your knees up towards your chest and really squeeze your abs while doing this.

Repeat.

3. Leg Lifts

Start off by laying on your back with your hands under your buttocks. Lift your legs so they are vertical.

Contract your midsection by engaging the upper abs.

Then, lower both legs so that the back of your feet are right above the ground. After holding that position for a few second, return your legs to the vertical position.

Repeat.

All three of those exercises are part of getting the best lower ab workout possible. If you have any lower back problems at all, you should not hesitate to see a doctor for exercise advice. Now you know the basic components of having one of the best lower ab workouts. Remember your safety comes first!

Good luck, and remember to keep learning and stay persistent. =)

When one talks about abs, you may often hear people complaining that their lower abs need work, or that their lower abs are not building up as fast as the upper abs. You may also hear talk of lower ab workouts that can be done to help this, “miracle” exercises that bring about beautiful lower abs with little effort and a miracle. Unfortunately, most of what you hear isn’t true, but it’s time to know the truth about lower ab workouts.

Can’t Stand Alone

First of all, it is extremely important that you do not rely on only lower ab workouts to build up your lower abs. In fact, all of the lower ab exercises put together will do nothing for you if your nutrition isn’t spot-on. If any program you may consider tells you that exercise alone can build your abs, you need to disregard that program entirely, because it simply is not true. It takes a delicate balance of nutrition and exercise to build up sexy flat lower abs.

Aren’t Just for Lower Abs

Another common misconception about those lower ab workouts you are so fond of is that they do not always “target” the lower abs entirely. They often touch at least the lower abs, but not necessarily only the lower abs. These workouts can also work things like leg and back muscles, upper, lower and oblique abs – in short, your entire core. This is actually good news as far as misconceptions go, because many people like to work more than one muscle group at a time.

Diet is Important

You know now that diet has to be part of your routine if you want to build sexy lower abs like you’ve always wanted. One big problem with that is that a lot of the time, people focus so much on exercising for lower abs that when they discover they have to bring diet into the picture they do not know what to do. Some good tips here are things like lean protein for muscle building power, and fiber/water for fixing bloating and digestive health problems.

Exercises Can Be Harmful

The final misconception about lower ab workouts is that anyone can perform them to build lower ab muscles. This however isn’t true, because of the fact that many people who are in certain groups of people cannot perform these exercises whatsoever. Checking with your doctor if you are pregnant, have recently had surgeries, or have some other sort of health problem is important, because people can sometimes have very dangerous problems as a result of performing lower ab workouts with these problems.

Creating flat, cut abs might be the goal, but some individuals try exercising their lower abs the incorrect way. Incorporating other muscle groups into exercises intended to target the lower abs is a mistake that’s very easy to make. You need to keep a few things in mind to execute lower ab exercises correctly.

Training your lower abs is not about how many reps that you can do at a time. It’s about really targeting the muscles and driving them to work. If you properly target your lower abs with the right exercises, you’ll be able to feel them working. Plus, when your lower abs begin to get tired from too much of a workout, you may start to not feel them as much. . Pay attention to your body. Do not over strain your muscles or else you will be paying for it the following day.

A terrific lower ab exercise that especially targets your lower abs focuses on your transverse ab muscles. The transverse abdominis muscle runs horizontally beneath the rectus abdominis muscle, which runs vertically and pulls the front of the pelvis up toward the belly button. The transverse ab pulls the belly button in toward your spine. The exercise that targets the transverse abdominis is implemented by kneeling on the floor with each of your palms flat on the floor before you. All you need to do then is pull your navel in as much as it is possible to by utilizing your lower abs. Relaxing the rest of your body helps make sure that the exercise has been done by your lower abs rather than various other muscles. When you are just starting out, start by maintaining the position for ten seconds followed by relaxing.

As these muscles become accustomed to getting used, you can begin lengthening the timeframe of the exercise. Hold the position until you stop feeling it, until you start feeling other muscles contracting, or for around two minutes. Beginners may make certain they’re suitably carrying out the exercise by examining their technique by lying with their face down on the floor and executing the identical movement. This position will allow you to be able to feel your lower abs better, consequently making certain the workout is done in the right way.

You can start another great exercise for your lower abs by lying flat on your back on the floor. This specific exercise focuses on your lower abs and works by moving your legs. The objective is to keep the abs tightly contracted throughout the exercise. When you stop feeling the tightness in your abs or you feel pain in the lower back, stop the exercise. To perform the exercise, one leg is kept on the floor and the other leg is kept in a bent position. Keep the thigh muscle of your bent leg in a position that is perpendicular to the ground. Then use your lower abs to lower your leg toward the floor until your foot touches it. Work both legs with this exercise. As it gets easier and you wish to boost the challenge, you can straighten your leg in order to increase the demand the exercise places on your lower abs. To further increase demand on lower abs, lower both legs straight at the same time. Always remember that this is an exercise that should be performed slowly and with a great amount of concentration. You ought to perform 2 to 3 sets, with 10 to 15 reps in each set.

Trying to work on your lower ab can be difficult and frustrating. Especially when you’re not sure which exercises to do. So, what I’m going to do is share with you the best lower ab workout. That way, you’ll be able to have a great set of abs.

The best lower ab workout is:

1. Leg raises. This exercise can be done with you lying on the ground. You’ll start off by letting your legs lay flat on the ground and then lift them straight up. This will work your lower ab, which will really help you get a great stomach.

You should do 4 sets of 15 reps.

2. Full crunches. These can be done with a machine at your local gym or with you lying on the ground. Full crunches consist of doing reverse crunches and regular crunches simultaneously at the same time. It’s not as hard as it sounds. You’ll do a regular crunch while at the same time, lifting your butt off the ground.

You should feel your abs tightened from this movement. You should do 3 sets of 20 reps with this exercise.

3. Hanging knee raises. This is another exercise that’s part of the best lower ab workout. Hanging knee raises can be done by hanging on a pull up bar at the gym. While you’re hanging, you should lift your knees straight up. You can do 2 sets of 20 reps.

4. reverse crunches. Another exercise in the best lower ab workout is reverse crunches. As stated above, all you have to do is lie on the ground in the same position as you would do a regular crunch, and lift your butt off the ground. Do 3 sets of 10 reps.

This is a lower ab workout that will help you hit the lower part of your abdomen muscles. If you are serious about getting your stomach in shape and looking good, be sure to use the tips above. It’ll help you get the best looking mid section.

If there was just one area on your body that you could change, what would it be? If you are like the majority of clients I have worked with over the years, it would be the lower portion of your abs (around your belly button level).

I have new clients come to me all the time asking me how they can lose stubborn lower ab fat. Fortunately for them I know a few tricks but first I like to clear up a few myths about the lower abs.

The first thing I tell my clients is that their “lower abs” don’t actually exist. The rectus abdominis is the entire region (and one muscle) which when strengthened we refer to as the “6 pack”.

The front of your abdomen is covered by the rectus muscle and for this reason it’s always been a highly controversial topic whether or not you can use an exercise to train just one part of this muscle.

Let’s get to the bottom of this…the truth is that you can’t isolate just one part of the rectus with an ab exercise but research has shown that it is possible to put greater emphasis on a certain area of the rectus depending on your exercise.

The researchers who discovered this fact used EMG studies to measure muscle fiber activity during different abdominal exercises. Their findings were interesting. They discovered that abdominal exercises involving more hip flexion (i.e. reverse crunches) activated the lower portion of the rectus more than ab exercises that involved more trunk flexion (i.e. crunches).

I want to clarify what a hip flexion dominant exercise is before we move along.

Hip flexion lower ab exercises are done when the thighs are brought to the trunk during an exercise. These exercises mainly work your rectus abdominis but more importantly they seem to target the lower ab area the most. Many of my clients experience lower ab soreness when they perform these hip flexion exercises which leads me to believe that they are they best bet for targeting the lower abs.

Alright, now for the good stuff! Im going to share with you some of the best lower ab exercises around. Ill also include a detailed description so you can perform each technique properly. Here they are, from easiest to most difficult:

Low Ball Pull In- Start with feet on Swiss ball and hands on the floor in front in a push-up position-do not let your hips sag. Bring knees into chest while maintaining a neutral spine. Contract abs then extend legs back out into the starting position. Repeat.

Hanging Knee Raise- Grasp chin up bar with an overhand grip, pull knees up into chest and lower back down slowly until you have returned to the starting position. Continue until you achieve repetition goal.

Rocky Abs- Lie on your back on a bench. Reach above your head and grab onto the underside of the bench to brace yourself. Lift your legs up until your hips (and legs) are at a 90 degree angle with your torso. Now lift your hips straight up, bringing your feet towards the ceiling.

At this point, the only parts of your body that should be on the bench are your head, shoulders and UPPER back. This is the starting position. Now lower your legs until they are parallel to the floor, while keeping your hips up and off the bench. Return them to starting position and repeat.

There you have it! These three lower ab exercises are some of my favorites. I must warn you that they are not easy movements. They require hard work. But I promise that the hard work will pay off and you’ll soon be on your way to a great six pack!

Most bodybuilders have fairly well developed upper abs. A few sets of crunches, a few times per week, and the upper four abs (of the entire 8-pack) begin to emerge. Some bodybuilders do not even have to do that much. Relatively low body fat levels, coupled with some stimulation from cardio and other compound lifts cause those lucky folks to possess those visible upper abs year-round.

The lower abs, however, receive far less spillover stimulation from other exercise. Additionally, in most people, the body tends to store a fair deal of fat in the lower stomach area. For this reason, both cardio and specialized lower-abdominal training are required. Here are a few popular lower abdominal exercises.

Leg raises on bench

These are a very common way to train the lower abs. Lying on a bench, put your feet together with legs extended, and raise your legs until your body is in an “L” shape. Repeat. Tossing them in at the end of any bench exercise, sprinkled throughout your routine, is an effective way to thoroughly stimulate them in a minimum amount of time.

Hanging leg raises

Find a high chin bar in your gym. Grab hold of it with both arms. Your body will be hanging. Keeping your hips stable and upper body stationary, tuck the feet together and move the body into an “L” shape. This exercise is the same as leg raises on a bench, only from a new angle! Be prepared for a great deal of soreness from this movement

Dip machine leg raises

Find a roman chair or chest dip station, and perform leg raises in thie station. These will be similar to hanging leg raises. However, since the brunt of your bodyweight will be placed on the arms (and not the back while hanging), you should be able to complete more reps to properly stimulate the area.

Cardiovascular exercise is often a requirement for the lower abdominal definition to become visible. Many times, a bodybuilder will develop an exquisite set of abdominals, and never be aware of it. Sitting at 15 to 20% body fat, or holding a great deal of water due to high sugar or sodium intake, the well-developed abdominal muscles will exist under a quarter inch of bloat. If you train your lower abs regularly, yet see no defined muscles; have your body fat checked. You may discover you have a nice set of abs, once you are able to remove the superfluous layers of fat and water currently obscuring them.

Do you need to find great exercises for lower abs? Descriptively discussed below are three types of exercise endorsed by professional trainers that are guaranteed to yield the results you are on the lookout for. By sticking with these exercises, you will soon have that figure you have been pining for.

A beer belly is an awful sight and is definitely detested, and everyone agrees it should be removed. And these exercises, when done regularly and religiously, will help to achieve that goal.

For the first exercise, you need to lie down with your back on the floor, both of your legs outstretched, and the hands placed on the sides. Remaining in this position, llift your legs to an angle of about 45 degrees from the ground before bringing both legs down again. You could only rest the legs after repeating the movement for about 10 to 15 times. After that, you can proceed to the next exercise.

Still lying flat on the floor, place your hands at the back of your head. With support from your hands, slightly raise your head. Maintaining such position, bend your knees, bringing the legs close towards the stomach before stretching the legs out again. Your legs should not completely go down onto the floor. Try repeating the exercise 10 to 15 times. When you are done, proceed to the last of the three exercises.

The third and the last one begins with you still lying down with your head in the same position when you did the previous exercise – it being raised from the ground just a little bit with the support from the hands behind the head. Then, bend your knees, allowing both your big toes to touch, making the knees outward in position. With this position, sway your legs with your buttocks serving as the pivot point. Feel the contraction right down in the lower abs. When you feel this, you know you are doing the exercise right.

While the aim is to improve the lower abs, you must not overdo the exercises as well. Changes will not come overnight and you have to accept this early on. Begin with a few number of repetitions and when you are ready, slowly increase the counts as you go along. If, at any point during the exercises, you begin to feel even a slight discomfort or pain, you may want to stop because you might be doing something wrong. Keep in mind, breath while doing the exercises.

Have fun while you are doing your workout. To make it more enjoyable, play some nice music or switch on the television and watch an interesting show while exercising. It is an important activity, but doing exercises for lower abs need not be a serious affair.

Lower ab exercises are a vital part of any workout program especially for athletes. This area helps in firming up the stability of the spine. A strong abdomen likewise helps in the prevention of back injuries. There are two muscle groups- the rectus abdominus which is lined up along the abdomen and works by pulling the pelvis towards the belly button, and the transverse abdominus located across the abdomen and pulls the belly button towards the spine.

The lower ab muscles are one of the most difficult to workout correctly. It takes a lot of muscle control and focus to correctly perform these exercises, unlike exercises for other parts of the body. The usual case is that individuals unknowingly cheat doing exercises like crunches by using their hip flexor and lower back muscles. While the most popular type of exercise for the lower abdominal is the sit-up, there are other exercises that are actually more effective than this exercise.

There is the plank exercise where a person faces the ground with the elbows touching the floor to support the body. The person assumes a position similar to push-ups. Similar to other lower ab exercises, the plank requires a person to utilize their stomach muscles in lifting the torso off the floor. The person then has to hold this position for a couple of seconds before returning to the original position. As you get more used to this exercise over time, it is possible to hold yourself in this position for quite a long time. It is effective in that it “switches on” the muscles in the stomach.

Hanging ab leg exercises are also very effective. In this type of exercise, a person holds on to a bar and taps the abs muscles to raise the legs. This is an effective exercise considering the pressure on the lower abs, and it can be very tough to perform especially for beginners.

Another of the good lower ab exercises is to flatten the back against the ground. In doing this exercise a person lies on the ground, knees raised, with the feet touching the ground. This position creates a space underneath the lower back with the spine’s natural curve. Utilizing the stomach muscles, a person tries to flatten the back against the ground and holding the position for a few seconds. This exercise is one of the most basic exercises one should do as it has very low impact – good for people that have back injuries for example.

In doing any exercises like this, you should feel the muscles working more than any other muscle groups. Lower ab exercises are designed to isolate the muscles in this area, and not get any help from other muscle groups. Likewise, there should not be any pain on the back while doing these exercises. When the back feels pain, then it indicates that there a bit of a problem and the muscles are not strong enough to perform the workout, or that the exercise is not being done properly.

These exercises should be done with a lot of care involved – slowly but surely. Abrupt movements won’t help in strengthening the lower abs, but instead can cause injury to the back. Lower ab exercises should be performed steadily to get the most out of the workout.

Lower ab exercises have to be incorporated as a part of your exercise routine. If you are looking to have a flat stomach, there is no way you are going to neglect the lower ab exercises, so to speak. They work the part of the muscle that connects to the pubic bone. So, however you look at it, lower ab exercises are critical for a successful flat abs campaign.

At first, you may feel that lower ab exercises are hard because the muscles respond slowly as they are not strong. And eventually you may feel tiresome to do because the stubborn layer of fat around there makes it appear that the progress is slow. In view of this, it is important to do the lower ab exercises correctly as there are chances to cheat by incorporating other muscles into the workout (like hip flexors and lower back muscles). Nevertheless, even the highly targeted lower ab exercises do require some effort from the upper abs. This emphasizes the importance of the need to concentrate during the routine.

Tips To Do Lower Ab Exercises

Lower ab muscles are the foundation of your core and are thus critical to overall strength and stability. Excessive momentum has the potential to negate the intended effect of the exercise and you’ll begin working out those muscles other than you want to. The e4xercises for lower ab in my website are aimed at training the two specific muscle groups that constitute the lower abdomen while minimizing the involvement of other abs muscles.

Don’t forget that abs are endurance muscles, so treat them like they are and keep the momentum going until you can’t do any more.

Inhale while your muscles are relaxing, lengthening, stretching out and exhale when you are contracting, shortening, tightening or crunching. So the exercises you do will work the entire set of muscles in some form.
